Shilpa John, dentist

About Shilpa

Dentist · Leppington, NSW

I trained at Pushpagiri College of Dental Science in India, and for two years after graduating I practised in a busy teaching hospital there — the kind of place where patients often arrived with years of untreated disease, and you learned quickly how to explain a hard diagnosis kindly.

Migrating to Australia meant starting again. For two years I worked as a dental assistant and receptionist in local practices while I studied for the Australian Dental Council exams. It's an unusual way back into the profession: I've now sat on both sides of the chair, as the person doing the treatment and the person handing over the instruments.

I was certified by the ADC in July 2026. I believe in unhurried explanation, no pressure, and treating people the way I'd want my own family treated — whether that's a child having their first check-up or someone who's avoided the dentist for years.

I'm now looking for the right opportunity to practise in south-west Sydney, where I live locally in Leppington. I speak English and Malayalam.
